15 New Amazing Amazon Purchases for Summer & Travel

Summer is here, and it’s been a minute since I’ve shared a round-up of my latest amazing Amazon purchases. Between our trip to Mexico, our floor remodel and our latest trip to Illinois, life has been pretty busy. And, there’s just nothing like good ole Amazon Prime saving the day (and your time!). So, here are the things I’ve bought on Amazon since my last round-up in February. All of the items below are pieces I have used/worn and given my stamp of approval. I’m excited to share them all with you because they’re perfect for summer and any upcoming travel plans!

Now, let’s chat about a few Amazon purchases in particular.

First, I was itching to get a new designer dupe bag from Amazon, ever since I fell in love with this grey Chloe dupe a few months ago. So after doing some more research, I found a new beige crossbody on Amazon that’s quite an impressive dupe of the Chloe Nile Small Bracelet Crossbody Bag. The quality and look of the dupe is great and I’ve received several compliments in past few weeks I’ve had it. Plus, the dupe is $43, while the designer version is $1690. It was also perfect for my trip last week in combination with a large tote.

The $15 camo dress I wore to the airport for our flight to Illinois has been an amazing find! I have tried all kinds of t-shirt dresses and this one is SO good. I seriously couldn’t think of a better thing to travel in during the summer. It is soft and the fit is perfect, not too tight and not too baggy. I wore it with converse and kept my cozy fleece in my tote in case the flight got cold.

Both bathing suits fit true to size, are a little cheeky and come in a handful of other prints/colors. I found the cut of these swimsuit bottoms were much more flattering than the high-waisted bathing suit bottoms that cut straight across the leg. The top for the gingham one is also adjustable. I wore both of them with the striped pom-pom cover-up and I was good to go for our beach days in Mexico!

Coola face sunscreen is a new holy-grail product for me. I’ve been hooked on it since I got it in my FabFitFun box last year. So, I got more before our trip to Mexico, and also bought a larger bottle for my body. I have never loved a sunscreen so much. It’s organic, doesn’t leave a film or feel sticky and applies just like a good quality moisturizing lotion does. So, if you are looking for good quality sunscreen this summer, I definitely recommend trying it out.

The vitamin C oil I found on Amazon has been great so far. I have only been using it for a couple weeks and will do a review once I’ve used it consistently for a couple more weeks.

The artificial flowers I found on Amazon were a surprising win for only $21. I was looking for something white and pretty to freshen up our dining room, and these look so good on our sideboard. There is just something I love about white flowers in the summertime that I love!

Lastly, I have been obsessed with burning the balance & harmony candle by Chesapeake Bay at my home office during the day. The scent is “water lily pear,” and it has a fresh floral scent that’s really nice but not overwhelming. The candle itself looks pretty on my desk too. It’s the little things like this that can just take a little stress out of the day!

I would love to hear about your recent Amazon purchases. Did you have any good finds or any duds? Have you bought any of the same items as me? Let me know and share your favorite thing to buy off Amazon so we can chat in the comments.

Cheers!

Getting New Floors & Our Home Remodel

Getting New Floors & Our Home Remodel - SCsScoop.com

Hi friends! If you have been following me on Instagram, then you already know that we have new floors. We have renovated, remodeled and done some general sprucing up at home for the past couple months. The bulk of work has taken place in the past 6 weeks, and while we still have a ways to go, today I am sharing an update on the home remodel. I’ll share the work we had done, what we did ourselves, how long it took, what went well and what went wrong. If you’re thinking about remodeling your home, I hope hearing our experience will give you some insight and confidence.

Getting New Floors

At the beginning of this year, we decided it was time to rip up our old carpet and 70s-style kitchen tile and replace it with something more modern that would add value to our home. We researched some different options, visited a few different places and ultimately decided to put down luxury vinyl plank flooring throughout 90% of our condo. The new floor now runs from the entry way into our dining room, living room, kitchen, hallway, guest bedroom, master bedroom and master bathroom. We chose luxury vinyl plank flooring from Floor & Decor for a couple reasons:

  1. It’s 100% waterproof. We wanted to update the tile in our kitchen and master bathroom, so with this flooring we could seamlessly run it throughout our home.
  2. It has texture and grains to it so it looks like wood.
  3. The price was right. Our condo is not our forever home so paying top-dollar did not make sense.

The process of getting the new flooring laid out felt long, but in hindsight it was pretty quick. We boxed all the small things up the weekend before the work began. From start to finish, putting down the new flooring took four days. It probably would have been less time, but we encountered a big leak from the wet-bar that was removed. It was a mess to say the least!

How We Cut Costs

While we started saving for the new flooring last year, we identified some extra ways to save money when we started researching and planning the process of laying down new floors. To cut costs, we opted to do some work ourselves. We removed all the tile in the kitchen and bathroom ourselves. Honestly, it was not something I would have been able to do without Will, even though I did pitch in. We did all this work on the weekends, starting about a month out. The dust from removing the tile was a little crazy, but thankfully we focused on the master bathroom first and just shut the door!

Additional Updates

Getting the new floors was definitely the biggest part of our remodel project, but we made a few additional updates to our home. I painted the entryway, dining room and living room. I opted for a brighter white than the creamy version we had in the hallway. It was Benjamin Moore’s Simple White. For the dining room and living room, I chose Benjamin Moore’s Summer Shower, which is a light, peaceful blue.

  • Removed the wet-bar in our dining room which was blocking light into the kitchen.
  • We widened the entry to the kitchen by cutting into the wall.
  • Got a new rug for our living room
  • Got a lighter slipcover for our IKEA couch
  • Got new storage for our kitchen and a new rug

Before and “After” Home Remodel

Since we didn’t take a lot of photos before the remodel, my Instagram Story photos and photos with Maddie and Maple are the best I have to show you our old tile and carpet and a look at our old living room.

The “after” photos above are really just where we are currently. I want to update the artwork in our living room. We still have things to finish this summer too, including finishing the new shelves/storage in our master bathroom, finishing our laundry area, selling some old pieces on Craigslist, painting the kitchen in Simple White and getting a rug for my office.

Moving forward, I’ll share updates on each room and any new home decor as it gets completed. If you’ve recently remodeled your home or gotten new floors, I would love to hear about it. And, if you are looking into a similar home project, I’m happy to answer any questions in the comments.

7 Floral Rompers for less than $50 + A Style Tip

A Style Tip + 7 Floral Rompers for less than $50 - Floral Romper Trend - Summer Style Inspiration - SCsScoop.com

Hi friends & happy Friday! I found an affordable floral romper that I have been loving lately. So today, I am sharing how I styled it and all the details for this look. I also found five more floral rompers that are all less than $50!

Floral rompers are a great staple for summer. In general, rompers are “in” this season, and I would guess that the trend will continue to be popular for at least a few years! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you already know I have a thing for florals. So, it’s probably not surprising that I am loving how the print looks on rompers. The floral romper I am wearing is $25 and comes in a blue floral print as well.

A Style Tip for Floral Rompers

If you’re trying to find accessories for a floral romper, it’s best to stick with neutral pieces and keep it simple. I accessorized my romper with ivory crochet tassel earrings and a new comfy pair of nude espadrille wedges. I wore a straw basket purse with a simple Kendra Scott bangle and rose gold cross ring as well.

Wearing neutral accessories will let your floral romper have its moment, and you won’t have to worry about the print competing or clashing with anything else. For layering on a cool summer evening, try a taupe suede moto jacket or a white denim jacket that compliments your neutral accessories. My neutral straw hat pictured below is also a fun, summertime accessory for floral rompers!
