Best Buys: Nordstrom Sale

I know. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is already over.. Sigh! If only it could last forever.. Or just apply to everything Nordstrom sells! Anyway, I’ll stop dreaming. Since the sale is over, I’m sharing the best things I bought.

Halogen Lace Overlay Shell

rag & bone ‘The Skinny’ Skinny Jeans (Dearborn)

Pleione High/Low V-Neck Mixed Media Top

Adidas Logo Muscle Tee

Make + Model Brushed Hacci Lounge Pants

All of these items are good quality pieces that I can wear for work & play. The Pleione top is perfect for work or a nice dinner. The Rag & Bone jeans fit perfectly, and the Make + Model pants are the absolute softest thing I have ever put on. In addition, there weren’t any surprises in terms of sizing. Everything fit me as I expected it would, so no exchanges needed to be made (score!).

While I did find some great items, I was a little disappointed with the selection included in the Nordstrom sale this year. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe I had my hopes up, but I felt like in years past there has been more to choose from and things haven’t disappeared so quickly.
I’d love to know if you had any recent shopping successes or duds, too. Hopefully this list proves helpful during the next sale. And if you just can’t wait until then, I highly reccomend Nordstrom Rack. It can be dangerous, for sure, but always does the trick for me.

Happy shopping!

An Artistic Gift in a Flash

So, you want to give a creative gift but your artistic skills don’t get much better than stick figures and you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg?

Never fear! There’s a new phone app that can cure this problem. I had an epiphany last week as I was playing with my new favorite app Prisma. The app accesses your photo library and has tons of artistic filters that transform your photos into artwork. The results are awesome!

Soon after I created this image (and several others on Prisma) I was at CVS printing photos and decided to print a few to see how they’d turn out. I pleasantly surpsised and realized how easily this app can be put to use to make a creative gift or an artistic memory of a fun adventure that can live in your home. After some deliberation with my photos, I chose a paddleboarding photo from my recent trip to South Carolina to put in my frame.

Let me know if you try this out or if you’ve had similar lightbulb moments that make gift giving easy.

Happy Friday & have a great weekend!

Fashion Favorite: Work Pants

If you follow me on Instagram, you’re sure to have seen some repeat offenders .. don’t worry I’m showcasing an example for you in my favorite color ;-).  And if you have a really good eye, you’ve probably noticed that the style of my work pants generally look quite similar.

Well, it’s not a coincidence.

J.Crew’s Martie pant has quickly become my favorite work pant this year. I was admittedly a big fan of their Minnie pant. But I officially broke ties with Minnie and moved on when I found Martie in the spring.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy the Minnie pant, but I’ve found the Martie fit to be much more practical and versatile for work. The Martie has a fitted straight leg with more room to breathe than the Minnie. The opening at the bottom is just the right size. What’s even better – the tall length hits right at my ankle so I can easily wear them with flats or heels. The fit around the waist also allows me to easily tuck in shirts or wear an untucked blouse and still look put together.

The quality of these pants has also stayed the same throughout multiple trips to the dry cleaner. I’ve tried similar brands, like Loft’s pants and they just don’t seem to last as long. For me that justifies the price. And for the record, my Martie pants have lasted longer and have maintained their fit more nicely than my Minnie pants.

If you’re like me, when you find a pant that can do all of these things for you, it’s a no brainer. You buy more in different colors!!
