Fashion Favorite: Work Pants

If you follow me on Instagram, you’re sure to have seen some repeat offenders .. don’t worry I’m showcasing an example for you in my favorite color ;-).  And if you have a really good eye, you’ve probably noticed that the style of my work pants generally look quite similar.

Well, it’s not a coincidence.

J.Crew’s Martie pant has quickly become my favorite work pant this year. I was admittedly a big fan of their Minnie pant. But I officially broke ties with Minnie and moved on when I found Martie in the spring.

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy the Minnie pant, but I’ve found the Martie fit to be much more practical and versatile for work. The Martie has a fitted straight leg with more room to breathe than the Minnie. The opening at the bottom is just the right size. What’s even better – the tall length hits right at my ankle so I can easily wear them with flats or heels. The fit around the waist also allows me to easily tuck in shirts or wear an untucked blouse and still look put together.

The quality of these pants has also stayed the same throughout multiple trips to the dry cleaner. I’ve tried similar brands, like Loft’s pants and they just don’t seem to last as long. For me that justifies the price. And for the record, my Martie pants have lasted longer and have maintained their fit more nicely than my Minnie pants.

If you’re like me, when you find a pant that can do all of these things for you, it’s a no brainer. You buy more in different colors!!

8 Almond Oil Benefits

There is no question natural oils are one of the latest beauty trends, but are they really worth the hype?! About a year ago, I did some research on expensive natural oils to moisturize your face and found that a much cheaper alternative exists. Drumroll please… it is almond oil! This was such a great find that I have to share with you all the almond oil benefits I have uncovered.

First, let’s take a quick look at the expensive natural oils I just mentioned. A mere 1.7 ounces of Josie Maran’s argan oil will set you back $48 and Tarte’s maracuja oil is even more expensive at $75 for 1.7 ounces. These brands claim their argan and maracuja oils do an amazing job moisturizing skin and conditioning hair. But in comparison, my research made it clear that almond oil has many more benefits and uses.

You can get 16 ounces of almond oil for $12. Now, let’s do the math and compare. If you got 16 ounces of Josie Maran’s argan oil, you’d pay $451. Eeek! So, almond oil is clearly a  cheaper alternative to “top shelf” oils that you can get at Sephora or Ulta. Of course, I figured, “why not give this a try?”

Almond Oil Benefits

I have been using almond oil off and on for the past year, and it really does wonders. Here are my top eight favorite things about almond oil.

  1. Moisturization! From moisturizing your face to your feet, this stuff does wonders. I find it especially helpful in the winter. It doesn’t feel as thick as lotion and really helps when my cheeks are chapped from a cold winter’s windburn.
  2. Diminishes body bumps. I had pesky little bumps (keratosis pilaris) on my upper arms that would never go away, but since using almond oil as a moisturizer they have disappeared completely!
  3. Diminishes fine lines. I know there are so many anti-aging products out there, but I swear this helps!
  4. Makes your skin glow. This oil noticeably evened out my skin tone and reduced redness, making me feel much more confident when I forgo makeup.
  5. No break outs! Seriously.. need I say more?
  6. Diminishes dark eye circles. I noticed this after just a few applications.
  7. It’s a makeup remover, safe on eyes/eyelashes. This is an added plus when you travel!
  8. The price — It shouldn’t cost women an arm and a leg to pamper ourselves and keep our bodies looking and feeling healthy. Am I right?!

8 Benefits of Almond Oil -

If you are thinking about trying almond oil, just keep in mind that I’m talking about sweet almond oil, not to be confused with bitter almond oil, which can be toxic (eek!).

Also, everyone’s skin is different. Some people find their skin reacts more positively to one natural oil compared to the others. Almond oil also has benefits for hair and nails. I’ve heard it can help with thinning hair and eyelash growth.

Just beware — if you give almond oil a try, it could be your new favorite thing!

Now I’d like to hear from you. Have you ever used almond oil on your skin? Do any of the almond oil benefits I shared surprise you? Share with me your thoughts in the comment section.

Vacation Recap: A beach week in South Carolina

Earlier this month, I headed to South Carolina for some rest and relaxation with my family and Will. We celebrated the Fourth of July, and Will and I hung back to have some time for the two of us. It was a much needed break and helped me refocus on what is important to me.

On the Fourth of July, we started the day off with what can only be described as an epic golf cart parade. The photo below will give you a small taste of what it entailed. My little brother Jackson and his friends decorated and rode the golf cart in the parade, while Will and I followed along on bikes. During the parade, neighbors set up on their lawns to bombard the golf carts with water guns, water balloons and hoses. The golf cart drivers and riders also arm themselves with water guns and buckets of water, so it becomes a bit of a battle on the road. It was extremely hot, however, so everyone was more than happy to get soaked during this all-American experience. After that we made a fireworks run, enjoyed the beach, cooked out and watched some fireworks before setting off our own–of course!

Will and I enjoyed paddle boarding, walking along the beach and cooking out. In addition to watching Indepence Day fireworks go off up and down the coast, one of my favorite nights was when we made Oysters Rockfeller on the grill – SO delicious. We loosely used this Sweet + Sour + Savory recipe. Thankfully Will and I use recipes in the same way — as guidelines to be utilized as we see fit!

We also enjoyed adventuring over to the historic town of Georgetown and Pawley’s Island. The charm of South Carolina beach towns is something I’ll always love as it reminds me of my childhood. And of course the whole beach week zoomed by as all great vacations do.

Until we see you again!
