Shirt Dress Style Inspiration for Winter

Shirt Dress Style Inspiration for Winter -

Hello friends! Winter is officially kicking off at the end of the week. To help you (and me!) cope with the dropping temperatures I wanted to share some shirt dress style inspiration, especially for winter. Similar to the Faux Fur Vest style tips I shared during the fall, this post is in collaboration with Lou Lou Boutiques on a special post for y’all. Shirt dresses can be worn throughout the year, but today I’m focusing specifically on thick, flannel ones and how to style them so you look cute, but not cold!

I wore Lou Lou’s shirt dress around Old Town Alexandria (in Northern Virginia) for a fun afternoon in November, exploring the waterfront and, of course, shopping at Lou Lous. I stayed super warm in a thick shawl vest and my leather leggings. But for full-blown winter, you may need to bundle up more.

Here are a few tips for styling a shirt dress this winter:

  • Layers are always a good idea – If it’s colder where you are, try pairing your shirt dress with a coat that hits at your hips or knees. You can also wear a cami or tank top under your dress for extra warmth,
  • Accentuate your waist – Shirt dresses with a tie waist are most flattering. If your dress doesn’t come with a tie waist like the one I got from Lou Lou’s add a belt!
  • Switch tights for leggings – The faux leather leggings I’m sporting are so much warmer than tights. Investing in some for your winter wardrobe, will be good for all your dresses, skirts and tunic-length tops!

4 Floral Closet Staples You Need for Spring & Summer

Spring is in the air! Well, it is arriving at a snail’s pace in D.C., but still, I am trying to stay positive.  Florals are a big trend right now. So having a few floral pieces in your closet is a must for anyone who is looking to maintain a trendy and current style. Whether you are dressing up for a night out or keeping it casual for a night in, a nice floral print will keep you looking fresh and stylish this spring and well into the summer. It is hard for me to pick a favorite trend this season, but florals are up there with my current stripe obsession. So, here are my four floral closet staples you need for this spring and summer. There are four categories listed below and each has a few items listed, in a rough order from casual to fancy.

First here’s a peak at one of the floral dresses featured below. I wore this dress last weekend, and the thicker scuba material is made of is perfect for spring. Also, I am loving duty blue and rosey hues these days!! Is it just me?

Floral Scarves

Scarves are one of my favorite accessories, and it is not just because I am only cold. I love to get a new scarf each season because it can easily take a jeans and plain shirt from blah to beautiful. A trendy floral scarf, like the ones below, will keep your wardrobe feeling more current and updated too.

Floral Dresses

Everyone needs a floral dress right? I mean I feel like this is up there with a little black dress. Floral dresses are so pretty in the spring and summer, especially for work, a fun date night or as a wedding guest.

Floral Shirts

This staple is my favorite when it comes to updating your work clothes. However, I did just by the Pleione hoodie below and it is super soft and comfortable. I love the look of bold and small floral prints on shirts as well.

Floral Shoes

Shoes, like scarves, are a fun way to add some interest to any outfit. The Keds and Vans below might be my favorite. Keds is doing a collaboration with Rifle Paper Co. and I’m in love with all the styles! This season there are also a lot of floral embroidery on heels. Like the Chloe heels below, this trend is very pretty and more subtle – perfect for those who are not a fan of a bold floral pattern on your feet!

So there we have it – floral scarves, floral dresses, floral shirts and floral shoes – the four closet staples your wardrobe is calling for! Aren’t these items staples a fun way to spice up a basic or blah outfit!? A floral item from each of these categories will definitely set up your wardrobe for spring and well into the summer. If you aren’t a fan of floral patterns, getting some of the items I mentioned with ruffles or stripes would be another way to incorporate some trendy pieces into your wardrobe.

Are there any floral closet staples I shared that you will be wearing this spring or plan to buy for summer? Are there other floral items you love that I didn’t include? Share with me your thoughts and tell me how you really feel about the floral trend!

The Ultimate Fall Fashion Checklist

Ultimate Fall Fashion Checklist

Hi friends! How have you been? I feel like fall is zooming by. Is it just me?! I recently celebrated my birthday and was able to sneak away for a little weekend at the beach. Will and I also have our 15-year and 10-year high school reunions this weekend (where has time gone!?).  And now that cool weather is finally setting in to D.C., the time is right to share my ultimate fall fashion checklist.

Fall is my favorite season. I love layering clothes and combining different patterns and cozy textures together as the crisp weather sets in. So, if you love to layer clothes or are looking for some inspiration for your fall wardrobe, this checklist is for you! The items on this list will leave you with endless outfit options for fall and transitioning into winter.

The Fall Fashion Checklist for Ultimate Style

Ultimate Must Haves Fall Fashion Checklist

Now that I have laid out my fall fashion checklist, I will share with you what I own, recommend and love that is on this list. There a few things I am eyeing, noted below too.

Long-Sleeve Striped Tee

Cotton Cardigan

Utility Vest

Riding Boots

Blanket Scarf

Skinny Blue Jeans

Long-Sleeved Lace Top

Flat Booties

Olive Pants

Infinity Scarf

Ruffled, Flowy Top

Crossbody Bag

Chunky Open Cardigan

Lace-up Top

Burgundy Pants

Quilted Jacket

Heeled Booties

While out and about over the weekend, I wore a few of my favorite fall fashion items from the checklist ! So far this season, I have been wearing my utility vest and flat booties the most. My favorite new purchase has been my AG burgundy jeans. They are so soft and stretchy. The high-waisted fit is perfect too. I could wear them all day because it feels like I have leggings on!

Ultimate Must Haves Fall Fashion Checklist

I wore this Levi’s utility vest over the weekend with my go-to skinny jeans and a new lace up top from Target’s A New Day line (p.s. it is currently on sale for $14!). This new line from Target is awesome, if you haven’ checked it out yet. My top in particular is thicker and softer than normal cotton. It is seriously cozy, perfect for lounging on a cold day.

Now, I need to know. Do you have similar go-to items in your closet for this fall? I would love to know if there is anything else you would add to my checklist too. Share with me what you are absolutely loving for fall this year!
