Hi friends! Will and I are less than six weeks until our wedding day and we are rapidly trying to get all the details together. Like most brides out there, I want to look my best (especially when it comes to the photos we will hold on to forever), but I also don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on beauty regimens! Having a bright white smile was one of those things I planned on handling with drugstore whitening strips or mouthwash, as I have done in the past. Then, Smile Brilliant reached out to me to try their at home, professional teeth whitening kit and share with you all a special giveaway!

While, I was skeptical at first, I must say my results impressed me! Smile Brilliant makes custom-fit trays for your teeth and uses a method that is the same provided by dentists, but at a lower price!  Now let’s get into the details.

How it Works: Custom-Fit Trays

Starting at $139 per kit, Smile Brilliant offers several types of whitening kits for sensitive, non-sensitive teeth and various levels of stains. Once your Smile Brilliant kit has been ordered, the first step in this professional teeth whitening process is to create your custom trays. Smile Brilliant sends you a kit to make your whitening trays. The kit includes impression trays for your upper and lower teeth and two pastes – a catalyst and base paste.

The instructions will walk you through everything, but it is important to read them before beginning the time-sensitive process. You mix the pastes together for about a minute, until the colors are completely blended. Then, quickly press the paste into the impression tray so that it is evenly distributed. TIP: let your phone timer run so you can see how much time is passing and stick to the instructions.

Once the paste is completely in your tray, you press the tray into your upper teeth and hold it there to make a mold for two minutes. When the time is up, you repeat this process for your lower teeth. The finished impressions will feel hard and a little spongey. Thankfully, Smile Brilliant provides a third set of pastes in case you mess up on your first try. I let mine sit overnight to harden and dropped them in the mail the next day with the signed consent card.

Professional Teeth Whitening at Home

It takes a few business days for the trays to arrive at the processing center. Then, it takes about five days for your trays to be created and shipped back to you. When your whitening trays arrive, you are ready to start the professional teeth whitening process, from the comfort of your home! Before you begin whitening it is important to read through Smile Brilliant‘s enclosed tips and information and brush your teeth.

It is hard to say exactly how much gel you should use, because it depends on how big or small your mouth and teeth are. Typically though, one syringe is good for three treatments. Make sure the gel is evenly distributed throughout the tray.  The whitening trays can be left in for 45 minutes to 3 hours, depending on how sensitive your teeth are. I started off with 1 hour and slowly worked up to 2.5 hours.

Once you are done whitening, wash out your tray and apply the desensitizing gel in a similar fashion as the whitening gel. You can leave the desensitizing gel on for 15-20 minutes. The treatments can be done as often as 2 times a day or as little as once a week. Since some people are sensitive to the gel, my advice is to take it slow at first and build up the time allotments from there.

It may take a couple applications before you know exactly how much gel is enough. Have some tissues nearby incase the gel spills out of the trays.

Positives & Negatives

One downside of Smile Brilliant is that it takes time to get your custom whitening trays made. So, you have to plan ahead if you want to use this system to have an extra white smile for an upcoming event. Because the system is created for deep whitening, it can come some sensitivity. However, Smile Brilliant does have a gel to prevent sensitivity. I used it because I have noticed sensitivity after using some teeth whitening products. If sensitivity is a concern of yours, I would definitely use the gel. My teeth feel perfectly fine after using Smile Brilliant.

Another negative is that Smile Brilliant is more expensive than alternative teeth whitening products and systems. Side note: It is still much cheaper than professional teeth whitening services you can get at your dentist, which ranges $600-$750. However, the cost of Smile Brilliant can add up to the price of using some whitening products over and over for a couple of years. For me this positive outweighs the extra cost. It is a one and done kind of product, so there is not a lot of upkeep.

The best thing about Smile Brilliant is the results are not just noticeable but permanent! Some teeth whitening products or systems just get rid of surface stains, but Smile Brilliant provides a deep stain removal. My personal favorite thing about Smile Brilliant is you can set it in place and get on with your day! I wore my whitening trays, while doing laundry, blogging, reading books and going to the grocery store.

The Results!

Since I use whitening mouthwash pretty regularly and have used a ton of other teeth whitening products, I was skeptical how well Smile Brilliant would work. Thankfully, the whitening system worked really well! After 11 treatments, the yellow tint that was starting to become more apparent in my teeth disappeared. Check out the photos below!
